Abstract

Since Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) provides larger address space, better mobility support and easier security integration than IPv4, IPv6 has become one of the most important protocols in next-generation Internet. During the early stage of IPv6 deployment, we believe the applications of voice over IP (VoIP) will be an important driving force to promote IPv6. As Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is adopted by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) for the multimedia services on 3G all-IP networks, we deploy an IPv6-based SIP VoIP network in Taiwan to study the interworking issues between SIP and IPv6. This presentation introduces the IPv6-based SIP VoIP network including SIPv6 User Agent (UA), Socket-layer Translator, SIPv6 Translator and SIPv6 Analyzer.
