Many people still think of the Web in terms of browsers, HTML, JavaScript and CSS. However, the Web is so much more than that. This talk will cover Dave Raggett's work on ubquitous web applications, model-based design, and the increasing role of the Semantic Web. This will be followed by an outline of Dave's latest work on exploring the potential for applying the Semantic Web to financial data, and research questions on scaling and the web of trust.

Speaker Biography

Dave Raggett

Dave Raggett is a W3C Fellow working part time as a member of the W3C Team. His current focus is on applying the Semantic Web to financial data, especially XBRL. He chairs the Model Based User Interface Incubator Group, as well as being a Team contact for the Ubiquitous Web Applications Working Group, which he chaired until November 2008. Dave has been closely involved with the development of HTML from the early days through 2000. He used to be the activity lead for XHTML, XForms, MathML, Voice Browsers and Multimodal Interaction. Dave is a visiting professor for the University of the West of England, and has a doctorate in astrophysics from the University of Oxford.
