Abstract

ECS has a leading role in the international e-Science and e-Research scene, from participation in the original UK e-Science Pilot projects through to the Open Middleware Infrastructure Institute, e-Research South and the “Science 2.0” movement. We pioneered the Semantic Grid initiative and the use of Web 2.0 in e-Research, and our cross-disciplinary activities range from chemistry and geography to social science, music and now neuroscience. After recent moves the ECS e-Research projects are now largely based in IAM. This talk will provide an introduction to e-research, an overview of the IAM e-Research activities and announce three new projects, with a view to increasing awareness and fostering new collaborations within the research group and more broadly across ECS.
