Abstract

The FicNet project is a HCI investigation into the online amateur fiction community. We consider the community as it is and what it might become. By working with the community to determine current practices and areas of concern we consider how future technologies such as the semantic web might be used to design applications to support the community and other similarly structured amateur groups. We concider the current social and 'community' networks within the semantic web and propose the recognition of a new structure which fulfils the definition of community more commonly used outside the Semantic Web systems. We argue that the properties inherent in a community allow additional processing to be done with the described relationships existing between entities within the community network and concider the effects that this might have on the community.
